US MRE 2012 #5 CHICKEN WITH TOMATO AND FETA CHEESE

Today's lunch. Freshness issues. Odd combinations. Not very nice. Greek style sauce was weird over bland chicken. Feta may have turned. Cornbread stuffing looked awful, taste wasn't too bad, texture was dreadful. Energy bar tasted stale. Cheese and crackers were okay. Cranberries tasted preserved and stale. Coffee had dry mold and was not drank. Blue drink was fine. A small lunch today. I managed to eat most of the chicken without sauce, the cheese and crackers, and blue drink. Rest sadly went into the rubbish bin. Thumbs down, weird combinations as well as expired taste.

That's hopefully just bad luck... I've got a 2014 version of the same menu here that is next in my MRE rotation for a random lunch, hopefully mine fares a bit better

I hope yours is better than this one. Most disappointing. Working my way thru a case, this was the first one with freshness issues. It would be nice to see your point of view, hope you do a review.

Odd how the first 4 were fine and the next was stale. All came from the same case.

Everything from the case has been perfect thus far... I'm due for a bad one. Haha
Mine has an apple-cinnamon first strike bar, raisins, vegetable crackers, cheese spread with jalapenos, reese pieces, and fruit punch.
I've got a few things in the que to get reviewed but I'll certainly do some MRE ones as well. Thanks

That First Strike chocolate energy bar looks just like the chocolate sports bar I had in my 2012 LRP ration.

I think the chocolate bar looks and tastes weird because it is flour free (gluten free) according to the ingredients listed on my package. I think its not so much that it was stale (at least from the appearance in your review) than its formulation. It was very dense. Even though the mouthfeel was unusual I really liked the deep chocolate flavor.

That's too bad, I actually rather liked that menu... Used the stuffing to mop up the leftover sauce. However, it's no longer a current menu.
