Jalapeño PepperJack Beef Patty 2013

Post by rattattoo » Wed May 27, 2015 5:44 pm

I've been doing some logging, and slash-and-burn around the property over the last few days. When I get busy, I tend to remember to hydrate, but often forget to get around to eating.
By about 4 PM this afternoon I was getting a little peckish, and decided to try out the my "dashboard heating system" up on top of my SUV that had been sitting in 90° driveway heat all day. The rig is simply a black-bottom/clear-top storage container that happens to be almost exactly the size of an MRE pouch. It also happens to fit easily underneath a car seat so that it is always there.

Because I was just looking for a quick snack I decided to have the PepperJack Beef Patty on a burger bun together with some of the condiment packages I usually carry when hiking... just in case.
Here you can see it after the meal had been sitting for about 30 minutes. The box code is 3035. I tossed the bun in too for the last 5 or 10 minutes, and also let the condiment packages set out to warm up since I keep them in the fridge.

The packaging says that it's 2.6 ounces, which is about what you get as a cooked weight for a quarter pound fast-food burger and it had that overground texture of that most of the "patties" seem to have. It did however fit fine on a cheapo burger bun. There was about 2 tablespoons of loose juice down in the package. I did take a quick sip of those, and they had a nice bite of "Mex"heat.
That same heat carried over into the patty itself. I didn't get any particular cheesy flavour, so I suspect it would have benefited from some of the jalapeno squeeze-cheese that I didn't think to pull out. All in all, it was a pretty reasonable little burger, but a bit on the small size for a meal... good for a snack though.

With the decent juice that was in the pouch, I think that this would probably be better mixed with the Mexican Mac and cheese or the Santa Fe beans and rice.

Great review and I can see that would make a fine shore lunch for a water trip. That paddy looks juicy enough to eat without condinments

Yeah, but there was not much flavor except the heat. Just like fast-food joint burgers, however it's certainly on my shortlist of "eaters"

Also for Norton:
The box heater rig would work just as well on a kayak or canoe ... all it needs is full sun, and the pouch gets heated up a good bit past "warm". You are never gonna fool yourself that it's hot, but for a snack... most anything is better than cold chow.

Love the box warmer. I wonder if that patty is actually a Jalapeno Beef Patty, because I'd never heard of a Pepper Jack one.

Mine was loose-lot.... It shows up in 2013 menus as:
#19--
Jalapeño Pepperjack Beef Patty
Cherry blueberry cobbler
Cookie
Cheese spread, bacon
Wheat snack bread (2)

.... so I guess it's BOTH... [I went ahead changed the lead anyway...thx]

I haven't had the patty yet, but the Cherry blueberry cobbler is really good!
