Random Box of MRE stuff

Post by ElevatorFan73 » Fri Mar 28, 2014 5:57 pm

Recived this in the mail today.
BEVERAGE BASE POWDER TROPICAL PUNCH. Date-code of 6108 - April 18, 2006
BEVERAGE POWDER CARBOHYDRATE ELECTROLYTE ORANGE. Date-code of 5266 - Septemeber 23rd, 2005
MAPLE NUT CAKE. Date-code of SPC214201400D3 - May 22, 1992
If I eat this, it'll be the oldest thing I've ever eaten.
I also got BAKED SNACK CRACKERS and CHOCOLATE DAIRYSHAKE POWDER, don't remember date codes but that's what I'm gonna review today.

Shake: Not the greatest thing I've ever tried, it tasted odd and I threw it out afterwards. Oh, and remembered they threw a recall for the shakes. Oh well, looks like I might die later.

The crackers, they tasted RANCID
The cheese taste was not there and it was extremely stale and broken up. Oh well.

Nice one, ElevatorFan! :D The baked snack crackers aren't too exciting to begin with, and when they're older than 6 years or so they tend to go rancid.
Yours are incredible! Even the packaging has seen better days! :)

That's a pre-2006 Dairy Shake! You can tell from the packaging, they changed to the one with the zip-lock tab that actually makes it possible to mix in the field without a cup or canteen.
I'd never consume a pre-2006 Dairy Shake for the recalls and also they don't hold up will with flavor integrity over any period of 7 or 8 years, alot like those Baked Snack Crackers.

The Maple Nut Cake is probably still good!
Ask ration vets like mreheater72, the nut cakes hold up for a long time, if stored properly!
If you eat/document it, take a small nibble and if the nuts taste "off" or if your tongue feels kinda funny, then don't eat it.
That is most unlikely (unless it was stored in a hot shed all these years) and chances are it's ''good as new"!

Cool stuff! :D

Actually, wait, take that back. I just opened it and tried some, all I can say is its incredible how this stuff holds up. Will probably be making another thread.

Don´t worry. The recall was only a precaution. As much as I know there is no reported case.

Give it a try and enjoy one of the best MRE dessert items ever, I´m sure it will be fine 8) . I have eaten dozens of MRE Nut Cakes that were maximum eleven years elder, they all were great. Please post some photos :) !

Did you buy them? How much$$? I hope not *this* much for these give aways...

The rancid crackers aren´t this unusual.
Some of them are filled with e.g. peanuts butter or just a civilian brand. So they get rancid pretty easy. Too bad as I relay like them.
