30 years old MRE freeze dried POTATO PATTY

Post by mreheater72 » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:38 pm

Hi guys,

yesterday as a snack during a little walk I opened a nearly 30 years old freeze dried POTATO PATTY packed by RIGHT AWAY FOODS CORPORATION :) . See the pics:

Close-up of the closed POTATO PATTY pouch. The condition of the wrapper was not the best, but is was tight and vacuum was there (there was a little "zzsss"-sound after opening)

No the taste test :) : The smell was perfect, a little bit spicy and with the flavor of potatoes. Because it was freeze, dried food I was not afraid of testing it: I did that as I did it often 30 years before, without reconstituting, only dry :) : Nearly the same taste as in former, good times, just like compressed potato sticks :D . The taste test was yesterday, about 30 hours ago, and I’m still ok :) : BTW, I ate the whole patty :) !

So long mreheater72

Hagen, you are a food geek

Great it was still in this good shape after 30 years.

I can remember having this patties, they were not like real mashed potatos but like what we would call "Kartoffelpuffer" (Reiberdatschi) - something like hash browns, right?

Yes looks like what we would call a hash brown here in the states.

These go very well on a porkroll egg and cheese sandwich :D

Amazing the shelf life on these , keep the reviews coming Mreheater72 !
