As far as I can judge from listening to the people posting here, the least loved of all MRE entrees might just be the Country Captain Chicken. Clearly this was one meal that I needed to seek out and try!
I obtained one from a 2004 case of MREs (Wornick, if it matters) and I delicately removed that bad boy from the brown cardboard sleeve. The retort pouch looks like any other MRE entree and was not in any way outwardly threatening. I laid it out on the floor, and with a friend standing guard with a Ruger 10/22, I proceeded to walk around the meal occasionally prodding it with my foot.
It seemed harmless, so I went ahead and heated that puppy in some hot water before unleashing it on an unsuspecting world. BTW - I save the FRHs for MRE bombs.
Here's the short version of my experience;
The chicken seemed overcooked, flavorless and had a cardboard-like consistency. The curry sauce, however, was far beyond my greatest expectations. although the sauce was also overcooked, it was still very flavorful and pleasantly spicy. Overall, I found it to be downright tasty!
I am severely tempted to remove the chicken part of one of these and try the sauce over a freshly fried piece of chicken. I can see why Patton was fond of this recipe.
I finally tried the Country Captain Chicken

You can pick your friends
and you can pick your nose
but you can't roll your friends into little green balls!

Hilarious review, Big Galloot! Don't let the Country Captain Chicken fool you, though...it was probably just laying low waiting for the right moment to strike.
Seriously though, the entree isn't *that* bad...it actually has a pretty good curry sauce. But those little nasty slivers of almonds completely ruin it for me! I think I finally figured out what bugs me about them...when you bite into them, it has the same texture as if you're biting into little fish bones. Yuck! Who wants a Country Captain Fish Bone Chicken entree?!

Well guys, guess what I did today??
I made some CCC myself. Get the recipe from 'southernfood.com':

and:

Oh man was it good, yummie yummie. There were some minor modifications however:
no almonds used nor scallions, didn't have any;
Chicken was cut into course pieces and coated in flour. Absorbed the spices really well. Oh man, I'm sitting behind the PC with a full stomach
I'm definately going to do that more often. (make CCC as well as some of the MRE dishes myself)
Here are the pics: enjoy
PS. NSF none CCC lovers
