Menu 24 Filled with air?

Hey there. I've had a menu 24 Southwest beef and black beans MRE for a little while now, possibly over a year, and I noticed after moving it that it seems quite airy. I genuinely can't remember if it was like this when I got it, it was a good while back now. It's still sealed, the bag is intact. It's not utterly bloated or anything, but there's a noticeable air feeling inside when it's handled, leading me to be a bit worried. It looks normal until I press down on it, then it feels somewhat like an inflatable camping pillow that's slightly deflated.

I just wanted to know if sometimes MREs are packed with a bit of air inside? It's a Wornick packed one so there's no date code. Picture attached.

Thanks for any advice given!

I wouldn't be too worried. I had the same thing happen recently but the ration was completely fine.

I've experienced rations that were full of air like a balloon, some that had a small amount of air, and some that had the air pulled out of them (as if they were vacuum sealed)

Ah, sweet, that's a load off my mind. Just caught me off guard when I picked it up. I've got two Dutch meal pouches that seem to be packed with a bit of air in them too. I'll go into the MRE with a bit of caution, use my nose and all that. Thanks very much!

No problem. That particular menu has been around since 2012 so it's not that old, but obviously not in knowing The storage conditions just use your best judgement.

Have fun and enjoy!

if its a bit inflated i wouldnt worry, its probably mainly because of difference between temperature and pressure from when it was sealed and now... If it was gas from a fermentation/rotting process there would be much more and it would be pretty inflated

That's 1 free breath of air included in that bag should you need it.
