How well do they usually hold up in accessory packets all in all? I'm trying to figure out how to get some to cheer myself up but don't want to go in too blind.

Depends on storage conditions. I opened up a 1987 mre and the coffee and sugar were just fine, the creamer was a little off but I drank it just fine. Now I'm in a 1982 and the coffee sugar and creamer are perfect. There's caramels that were in the 1982 accessory pack too that appeared to hold up just fine. I also have a 1968 lrrp and an early 70s lrrp, they're supposed to have 2 coffees each but I've not opened them yet.

The newer tan packs of spray-dried should hold up forever, just like the old school packs from MCI's and '80's MRE's. The tan packs of freeze dried will hold OK as lone as the Mfr./packing process was in spec for the particular batch.

Does anyone know where you can buy the coffee packages that are in the military MRE's? I am unable to find anything online. I have been purchasing the instance coffee from the stores. The starbucks blonde is so far the one I may stock up on but expiration is 3 months from now. Im betting they just put a date and the product will actually hold up for some time but I would really like to get my hands on the type 1 and 2 that are in the military MREs.

Not .mil but I carry the Starbucks French roast instant packets in an ammo can with my Jet Boil. I’ve had a box over a year and a half and it still is as bold as ever.

In the brown bags I was getting from Dudeman looked fine, smelled fine, felt fine, and yet had a strange off flavor strong enough I didn't eat them. Something did not age well. Tootsie rolls seem impervious though.

I'm drinking two year old Starbucks Via's and they are perfectly fine. This stuff holds up pretty well it seems.
