I recall reading a forum discussion regarding the crescent we see on all our MRE cases. What's if for ? Why is it there ?

Just by chance I was reading through a magazine on military history called "armchair general" and there was a sub article on the history of the crescent ! So here it is.

I never really noticed the half moon on the cases, but now that i read this article its cool to see what kind of history is behind it and that it dates so far back.
