Date Code/ Packing Menus

Post by Rogue187 » Sat Jun 02, 2007 10:30 pm

Does anyone know where I might find out about how they pack the MRE's.
I have received a set of boxes that were packed sometime in 2006.
When I opened them I found the contents to be of the 2005 menus.

Is this normal? To be packed in 2006 but contain the food items for a 2005.

Thanks
Larry

Sorta like the new car models, the 2006's came out in the fall of 2005...

dirtbag sums it up nicely - the MRE menus don't follow calendar years (January to December). The trend lately seems to be for them to start producing the current year's MREs around April or May.

There's a helpful page over at the DSCP website:

http://www.dscp.dla.mil/subs/support/qa ... /index.asp

This shows the production dates for the various MRE menus since 1998:

1998 - Oct 1997 - Sep 1998
1999 - Oct 1998 - Sep 1999
2000 - Oct 1999 - Sep 2000
2001 - Oct 2000 - Sep 2001
2002 - Oct 2001 - Sep 2002
2003 - Oct 2002 - Sep 2003
2004 - Oct 2003 - May 2005
2005 - May 2005 - Apr 2006
2006 - May 2006 - Present

So as you can see, if you want the 2006 menus, you'll need to find a case from at least May or later. I have seen examples of 2006 menus in cases from earlier than May, but I think that's hit or miss and you can't really count on it.
