While I was stooging around book seller's sites, I came across this little gem.
"MRExcellence: Your guide to making ordinary military MRE's" (as opposed to McDonald's MRE's) "extraordinary!" It's by Vicki Walters, was published in 1997 by Western Reserve Foods. 172 pages, spiral bound. It goes for $35 a pop.
Amazon has one. Alibris and Abebooks have the same copy listed. Alibris will sell it to you for a nickel less, and if you order it through Ebates you'll get 4% back, and they offer online coupons.
Of course Kman has a bunch of copies and sleeps with one under his pillow.
I'd buy it, but I blew my fortune on MRE's.

Hey guys,
Since were talking about cookbooks I just bought on ebay not to long ago "The Charlie Ration Cookbook". There were some on ebay going for ridiculous prices but I held out and go one for a resonable bid. When I got it it was in such perfect condition and the receipes made me fantasize about the old days of getting a case of C-rats and experimenting. I wish they still made the C-rats so I could try some of the receipes. What's curious is that all, with the exception of one or two, have to have tabasco added to them? Unless your a die hard I can't see using a whole bottle for a serving of one or two.

Hey I almost forgot to mention. I put out a post a long time ago on another cookbook that came out in the mid-1980's called the "canteen cup cookery". And I think somebody made znother post just recently? That book was a gem, and it did wonders for the brown bag MRE's about then. I can remember using it a few times but I think it required some cooking time and some civilian foods to spice things up. Not very useful when your humping the hills or running all over the place, but still.
Does anybody know where you can pick up copy? If somebody has a ISBN to the book you can go to Amazon or Barnes and Noble to see if they have it? If so can somebody post it here?

Treesuit,
The tabasco they're talking about are the same little ones now in MRE's.

Hey Treesuit...over on this page:
http://people.cornell.edu/pages/wk17/72hour.htm
I found a reference to that book:
"get the book, 'Canteen Cup Cookery' by Galen Geer from Desert Publications, P.O.Box 1751, 215 s. Washington, El Dorado, AR 71731. It's a $7 book with $50 info."
And here's a link with the ISBN number (0879474432 or 9780879474430):
