Hi everyone,

Was curious if anyone here has reviewed or is in possession of a Civil Defense Carbohydrate Supplement Tin. I've seen Reviews on the Civil Defense Crackers but not the carbohydrate tin.

Those are fascinating - the old cancer causing red dye really was an alluring factor to me scoring a sealed case for $100 bucks at my local Army & Navy. After I review it one of these days I will bag up a ziploc of some for ya JT. ;) Just don't eat the red ones if you value your health.

Mmm sugar coated cancer. I'll keep away from the red ones...except maybe one haha. Much appreciated Steve. Have a good rest of your day. :)

Yah I would do that if I were you. Man you are lucky! Where do you even find these rations? The only ones I can find are lots and lots of money, and I would love to do a review for my channel on one of these older rations i.e. C-Rations, Emergency Rations. Anything! :D
Cheers,
Simon Cross

I received one of these many years when the area Civil Defense shelters were phased out after the Soviet collapse. A local testing lab had determined that the candy was still good, but the crackers were rancid. (Didn't need a doc to tell me that!)

The candy was given to me with the understanding that it would be used by the Boy Scout troop. We repackaged the "supplement lozenges" (about the size and shape of a cough drop) in ziplock bags and passed them out on camping trips for several years.

They are your basic sugar - citric acid - artificial color -artificial flavor hard candies. To me (and the Scouts), they all tasted the same.

It's kind of ironic when you think about it; the red dye in the supplement caused cancer, and if you were in a situation where you had a choice between starving or eating it, you could always leave the shelter and get leukemia from the fallout.

My apologies if this is in the wrong topic, I just thought of the irony of it.

Not a hundred percent sure, I don't think they are common, because of their age, but rare? I don't know
