MRE Buns

Hi,

I'm brand spanking new to this forum and I'm glad to see other folks out there that are just as interested in military rations as I am. I've been buying MRE's for years and I carry a good supply in my Jeep in case of emergencies. I also have them stashed everywhere just in case. I always buy all the different main meals and side dishes separately and put them in a ziplock bag. My own MRE constists of a main meal, crackers, cheese spread, a spoon, a napkin, a heater and a tea bag. I find that it is an adequate meal when I go camping or caving and it only costs me $2 to $3 per MRE. I wanted to make up some hamburger MRE's that would consist of a beef patty, MRE bun and ketchup and mustard. I found beef patties at Emergency Essentials but I can't find individualy packaged MRE buns. All I can get is packages containing 6 buns. The problem with that is that once you open the bag then you have to use the other 5 buns within a short period of time. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy MRE buns that are individually packaged. I do have a supply of the six pack buns but again they don't do me any good when I want to make just a singe MRE. Any help I can get would be appreciated.

Wish I could help, ranger_st, but the only time I've seen individually packed buns/bread is in Canadian IMPs. Unless someone else here has seen different, I'd think your only MRE solution would be to use the Wheat Snack Bread. At least the newer snack bread isn't as bad as the old version.

You're right. I guess I could have two wheat breads since they're kind of thin and they could act as the two halves of the bun. Good idea.

Thanks

Two pieces of wheat snack bread sure would be a lot of bread (because it feels so compressed) but at least it might do the trick.

Cut 1 slice in half, two thin slices... easier to chew !

That's a great idea, dirtbag. It's going to seriously challenge my knife-handling skills, but I think I might have to take it on and give it a try. Good thing I still have about 70 of those HDR wheat snack breads left to experiment on...

Thanks, I'll have to try it to.

Use a serrated blade !
Heat it up, it will be more flexible ! You can put the bread in the FRE with the entree :D
I think its a bit dry / stale cold. :?

I´m "anyone" :D

If do you need anything about US-MIL rations, you have to ask where they are:

In Germany :D (for the last 60 years)

I was as a "on scene coordinator paramedic" at our US-installation, also teatching US-MP troops replacing the troops left to Iraq:

We got lunch, canned food and:

Genuine US-Army Europa, avialable here:

For any further questions about US-Rations, don´t hesitate to ask...

... an European :D
(just kidding!)

Wow, housil - you are quickly turning into "the man" when it comes to finding all sorts of difficult-to-locate ration information!
