Why are some US Rations almost never seen?

I have been reading and viewing rations and rations-related stuff for quite some time now: while i cannot in any way say im an Expert: i do have this burning question:

There are many interesting and special-purpose rations detailed in the document released by US DOD yearly : a copy which can be found here
http://everyspec.com/ARMY/ARMY-General/ ... 012_49978/ or just google natick pam 30-25 , such as the entire UGR family, MArCs, MREs for religious purpose and Tube foods etc

Why have none of these rations managed to "fall off the truck" or somehow or other manage to get into the hands of civilians ? And if they have, why haven't they made any reviews to share with the ration community?

I have yet to see a review of an UGR of any sort or a review of U2 pilot's tube food :(

Some of it is made in very small quantities (like U-2 tubes) and therefore never in "surplusable" amounts. Making off with any of it could be considered a prosecutable offense or at least get the perpetrator fired. So posting a review of them is highly unlikely.

The only meals that are regularly sold lawfully are MREs and TOTMs, and those only in military commissaries to those authorized to shop there.

For tube foods I understand now, but what about UGRs and MREs (religious)? Surely there must be enough UGRs issued out that some of them can get "lost"?

I also cannot recall seeing reviews of T-rations :?

T-rats are all out of date by now I would guess having been replaced by UGR. There are several reviews of UGR items if you look. Housil and myself did pic reviews of the eggs. Oldsmokey did a UGR cake on youtube

I have "tons" of UGRs and T-rations, but it´s always "difficult" to get 17 friends over to review a T-ration

Religious MREs just taste "bland", that´s why I don´t eat them. I did a couple of...

I have a contact that might be able to get their hands on a U2 pilot ration or two (legally). Let me see what I can do. It would be awesome to send one to steve1989 to review. :D

Some of the rations like the Passover meals are a seasonal item...during pass over.

Other rations are only manufactured during "war time" whatever that means.

And as with all things government, contracting issues create supply problems. Also, certain rations are generally only available at certain places where they are used (like MCW at the arctic training and mountain warfare schools).

Also, lack of demand from the Armed Forces means some rations are produced only in small batches or infrequently.

This is what I've heard from DoD logistics personnel.

That would be simply amazing, parafireboy! :D Thank you for even considering it! I'd certainly give it my best shot on a solid review if ever given the chance. Would have to return the favor with something cool for you too.

Glad to do it, Steve! I've reached out to him, and am waiting to hear back. Now we cross our fingers! :D
