2002 US MRE's
2002 US MRE's
Hi Everyone,
So, i just received (6) 2002 US MRE Menus in the mail.
I didn't know they were this old when i bought them on Ebay. I seller has already issued me a refund, as i stated these are in-edible.
Would you guys eat them? Should i give them a shot? As long as the dont smell/taste spoiled, they SHOULD be good to go, right?
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS??
Thanks!

Well 2002 is not really that old for an MRE but it depends on how they were stored so hard to say with out opening. If you get to keep them might as well crack them open and check it out. That is half the fun anyway!
One of the problems with eBay is it can be hard to tell what you are getting. Look for ebay listings that state that date and even better provide pictures of the dates on the cases.
Cheers,
Jim

They might still be good. Who knows? I recently had a 1987 beef stew MRE that was still good. Literally all components in the MRE tasted fine, much to my utter surprise. I also encourage you to take pictures of the experience and record your findings in the MRE Reviews section of this forum. I and many others love reading about older rations!

Nice, you must be a professional photographer or something. The pic of those Skittles looked so good I originally thought it was an advertisement for a sec.

C´mon, they are just 16 years old...Exit22 wrote: Would you guys eat them? Should i give them a shot? As long as the dont smell/taste spoiled, they SHOULD be good to go, right?

I recently ate all my 2004/2005 ones. Never had a spoiled entree. Some single items (coffee) can be spoiled. Use your senses. If them smell, look, taste "odd", don´t eat them - just take pictures.
I have eaten a 32 years old cake

Re: 2002 US MRE's
I've had a 28 year-old entree before that was perfectly fine still. Always do the smell, look, taste test first, and trust your instincts. There is good likelihood that some of the components will no longer be good, but the odds are pretty good that some will be edible still, so long as they have been reasonably stored over the years.
If you do dive into one or some, be sure to take pics and share what you find!
