FRH Question

Post by eebs » Sat Mar 24, 2007 1:37 pm

Hi, to start off with, this website is brilliant I learned a lot many thanks.
I’ve just got my first ever MRE but I’m not sure about the best way to use the FRH.
My MRE is from 2002 and its got two entrees, meatloaf with gravy and mash potato, as far as I can tell the FRH is a one take deal, i.e. I can only heat one entree with it, but I want to heat both, does the thing last long enough to do both individually or do I put both entrees inside the bag and heat them together, it looks to tight for that and I don't want to rip the thing apart trying. So what’s the best way to go about it?

Yes, you can heat both at the same time, just slip the second item in the box , on the other side of the heater. Main entree in the bag, second item under the bag, both in the box...

A little trick with the bag- slide the entree in but keep it above the 'add water 'line. keep the heater packet above the line also. add the water to the line, avoiding getting the heat packet wet if possible. then give the bag a shake, dropping both entree and heater into the water at the same time. fold over bag and pop into the box ! Then squish the water around quickly and then prop the box up as illustrated! Be advised, it will get hot enough to burn you!

Yeah, you have to be careful with the new style heaters. Thet make steam fast! The old style got just as hot, but in slow motion :P
Oh, yes, be sure to use the FRH in a well ventilated area... no toxic gasses but it sure does stink !!!
If you want to do some jail time, google FRH bomb !

I brought a menu #20 a month ago to school and I heated up my spaghetti and still had enough heat for the cherry blueberry cobbler.

I use a trick similar to dirtbag's except I go ahead and let the entree and heater element fall to the bottom of the bag but I make sure to keep the heater completely vertical when I pour the water in and when I'm putting it back in the entree box. Once it's ready to go, I tilt the entree back and forth to activate the heater and step back and the steam starts billowing out of the box.
