How to Get Started?

I've watched Steve1989's videos for quite a while now. Recently my son has started to take an interest. I thought it would be a good experience to get a US ration for us to investigate. We are from the US and he wants to know what our soldiers are experiencing. I want to make sure the contents are still edible and would pass the eight-year-old taste test :) He is also very excited to get one with chocolate inside.

What should I be looking for to give my little guy a fun and educational experience? Where can I get it? I'm a bit weary of eBay. I've had a lot of bad experiences.

I'm in much of a similar position to the OP. I happened to stumble onto Steve1989's videos and found myself fascinated, especially at the old Vietnam rations since my late uncle was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict and he probably would've had some of those rations. I watch the vids with my girlfriend and we both enjoy them and even imagine how we'd split the 24hr rations! :D

Anyway, the only ration food I've ever actually had was in 2004, I believe, when my cousin serving in Iraq gave some of the ones he'd saved to bring back home to us. It was an interesting experience, but I've forgotten all of what was in there. So, I've been looking recently to maybe find a ration to explore just what they're like, but I haven't found just the right one for me yet.

Let me know what you're looking for. Happy to help out especially folks new to the hobby. I was new myself not that long ago! It's a great hobby, and a great community here. Welcome!
