Hi,

now I want to show the first type plastic spoon that was issued in US rations ("Ration, Combat, Individual" and very early "Meal, Combat, Individual"). The used material was transparent plastic, the shape was nearly the same as of the familiar white spoons that replaced ("Meal, Combat, Individual" and early MREs) the transparent ones (about 1960?). The following photos show a pack of three spoons out of a "C-Ration", there is no printing except "T7":

The forerunners of the plastic spoons were wooden spoons that were content of K-Rations. Here a link with a photo of reproductions (in my collection that kind is still missing :( ):

I happened across your post a long time ago, but am now just getting around to commenting on the origins of these spoons. These were first packed loosely into the Ration Individual Combat (RIC) starting in 1949 and used as you said up through the post Korea RCI and early MCI variations in 1959. This particular set of spoons with the cardboard sleeve would have been packed into the RIC variation produced in 1951 with the 6x6x7 square box. In the quartermaster historical studies on special rations it states that the plastic spoons were packed vertically in the center space between the two layers of stacked cans and protected by a cardboard sleeve to prevent breakage. I have included an original photo of this ration, as well as photos of an original example of this ration from my collection along with photos a complete reproduction I made of this ration. I currently do not have an original three pack of spoons in the cardboard sleeve to complete this ration. If you are willing to sell yours, it would complete my original example as its the only component of the ration I am currently missing.
