MRE's on Commercial Aircraft

I would like to take a few MREs with me on a wilderness camp trip, but I have to fly to get there.
Anyone have any info on MRE's in checked/carry on luggage. The latest batch of MRE's I have (made in 9/2003) have this printed on them:
"Flameless Ration Heaters are Prohibited on commercial airlines UNLESS sealed in original MRE Bag."
I take this to mean that they are OK in luggage as long as the MRE outerpackage is intact.
I searched the TSA,FAA and Delta websites and I could find nothing that would prohibit them. I even called Delta Customer Service who, of course, didn't know. My delta rep even called TSA and they couldn't give me an answer.
I did find one airline that specificlly prohibits the FRH, that was Airtran.
Any help would be appreciated.
