Question about US MRE's

Post by SNiiP3R » Thu Aug 04, 2016 8:19 pm

I just received 2 US MRE's.

One of them has the insp. date stamped on it on the bottom, the other ration does not have any dates at all. Is that normal ?

Don´t ask me for the timespan, but there was one when they had the date stamped there but they also discontinued doing this.

I mean, I'm sure they are still fine and safe to eat. I just thought that it's weird that one has no inspection date.
I wonder how they check rations with no date on them?

The box must have a manufacturing date and an inspection date. I think, when a box is opened all rations are eaten. If not, goes to the trash bin for safety reasons. But I can be wrong :)

Maybe the date code is hidden on the outside of the outer bag. I had a ration also without any visible signs of a date code, but when the light hit it in a specific angle there was the four digit code.

The embossed date on the end flap is the production date. I've never seen an inspection date on an individual meal, only on the case.

Boxes or individual rations? Boxes will have specific codes labeled on them. Individual rations may have date codes on them depending on what they are and when they were made.
Good luck and may your rations stay unspoiled!

I just bought the 2 individual rations. The one with no dates is the Chili And Macaroni Menu 10. Perhaps someone has the same one and could check for dates?

You can just open the bag. Each item inside has also the date code. Chili And Macaroni Menu 10 was issued in 2008 until today.
