... and currently trying the Vege taco Pasta - nice.
And seen the first definition of US military-speak for a mainstream product.
Army-ese - Peppermint Candy Rings - bust the pack open... individually wrapped Polo mints. Yeah - "Lifesavers" embossed... but they're fucking Polo mints!.

The contracts for the meals don't specify any brands, but there are plenty of existing commercial products out there that satisfy the specifications. The rest are made to spec by the MRE companies or subcontractors.

I'm confused, are Polo mints the UK version of Lifesavers? They look like the same thing in pictures, so I don't get the problem I guess. We don't have Polo mints in the states that I'm aware of, or at least not without heading to a specialty store/isle.

One of my favorite examples of this is:
Cookies with Pan Coated Chocolate Discs
It's just a dang cookie with M&Ms embedded in it. Plus the package says Cookies - plural, and you get the one big cookie. Not that it's not enough of a snack - it is. It's just that it bothers me that it's grammatically incorrect while they're trying to be so specific.

I guess they refer to all cookies and not to that single cookie right in that pouch?

The logic of nomenclature is based on putting the main word first, so it is easy to find in an alphabetized list. If you described something as a "Folding Tent" it would get hidden under "F". It could be even more lost if it were called a Green Folding Tent, or White Folding Tent.
So it's actually a lot smarter to list all tents together as...
Tent, Folding
Tent, Folding, Green
Tent, Folding, White
Tent, Mess
Tent, Six-person
and so on
