I am still going over it

Take a look at this DOD photo and look at the equipment. When do you think it was taken? The uniform is not BDU woodland. The blotches are smaller, is this left over uniform from Late Vietnam war? Jungle boots, The cut appears tight and it looks like his shirt is tucked in (maybe not) He has folding E tool in plastic carrier pistol belt seems to be still canvas with vinyl ruck sack and first aid carrier
Kevlar helmet with no cloth cover, camouflage looks machine made not hand painted
Ration pack seems to be a combination of LRP meal and MRE.
Canteen cup heater (what year was that an item of issue from Quartermaster?)
M 16 A1 with thirty round magazine

My gut tells me it is a photo from the late 1970s show what a soldier in the 1980's will be equipped.
Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated

Thanks so much Laughing_Man, you are an inspiration with all the wonderful information on Rations that you have provided over the years and I am so happy that you enjoyed these photos. I had a great time finding them and sharing them here!

Hey Norton, those are some cool pictures there - I specifically thought of you when I saw them and though (gee, I think this is around when Norton was in the Military, I wonder if he ever used any of this gear & camo?)

Ok, here is the info on that picture of the soldier preparing the LRP.

It's a Spaghetti W/ Meat Sauce LRP and the picture was taken on April 14, 1976.

Interesting PASGT helmet w/ the painted on camo and no actual helmet cover. The older Woodland Camo was a little bit different and I think it was actually first produced in the early 70's, maybe even late 60's. Will have to confirm the exact time and I'll do some research and find out.


I love that photo of the 2 soldiers eating on the melamine trays too! Gotta love those M14's.. I gotta go back and see what year that was taken if it's provided.. 1 sec here.. ok it was taken in 1969! It is titled "Speed Kitchen". Great picture!


I just found thousands more pictures and I will keep this thread updated - guys, I found the treasure trove of information here! There is more than I'd ever imagined!
