Hey guys i am Garron, I am from the UK (Wales to be exact), I have just bought of ebay.co.uk a Cheese Tortellini MRE in a light tan packet (all i know it was a single packet) i have no experience in MRE's only Brit packs

what do you think about this menu?

i hope to be doing some photo evaluvations of the British rations packs soon (once my exams are over)

The Cheese Tortellini is one of my favorite vegetarian MREs. It also ranks pretty high on my list that includes meat entrees. As for the contents, you can find the menus linked below and those will show you what's included in that MRE (I'm guessing at the year):

If your MRE contains the pound cake, that's great to have in your first MRE. I'd consider the pound cake to be a staple MRE food - they've been including those things in military rations for the past 40+ years at least!

he didnt give any details just the name

i have worked out a dating plan

'96 and #12 (has to be'96 onwards as thats when it was intoduced)
if its #13 '99 onwards,
and '01 onwards #13 it has pound cake,

he didnt give me a date but i think i can ID it from that and the contents, so i will post when it turns up

please correct any mistakes if you can see any

Hi Garron-

Kman's right. That's a good menu item. It just needs a sprinkling of salt and pour all the Tabasco on it. If you have a poundcake, you've struck MRE gold. Fantastic side item.

Don't make the typical newby mistake by putting your main meal on a plate!

Enjoy it the way God, Wornick, and Sopakco intended you to: straight out of the pouch with that long brown spoon.

the main meal was very nice, better then the british "menu G" meatball and pasta, massive pieces of pasta compared to the tiny bits in the brit

!!!IT HAD POUND CAKE!!!, that was amazing, was really filling aswell

crackers ok, tasted like RITZ buisciuts (i dont know if you get them in the US)

peanut butter (after kneeding) was like anyother one, bit oliy went well with the crackers,

Spiced apples were great like the middle of an apple pie

overall, was great, i would buy one anyday and use it to go camping no problem,

i hope all are as good as that one

edit i think it was from '03 as the accestory pack was the same as'03 it didnt have hot sauce

Pound cake AND spiced apples is a great find! Yes the apples are great even when 7 years old! (I actually like my '99 ones better than the fresh ones)

Just finished a #22 jambalaya was OK the smoke flavoring was slightly over powering but with tabasco went down better

the MRE bread was really good, was awesome with the cheese spread and a dash of tabasco

the 12oz cherry drink was at lot nicer then i thought it would be, would be great added to carbonated soda water (not very available in the field)

US skittles have more in than the UK packets,

The chocolate oatmeal block was great dipped into a Brit ration pack brew kit tea with the US creamer (not a big fan of coffee).

**Rational you are a man of good taste and once i find another job and get some more cash i will be reviewing Brit rations (going to have to force myself to eat them *what a shame*). I was lucky really the bloke didnt have a clue about what he was selling, '99 and they are still great, rations do have a amazingly long shelf life,

Good reviews, Garron. Keep 'em coming! So you actually liked the Cherry drink, eh? About the only other person I've run across who likes that stuff is DirtyDave (here on the forums). I could pass on almost all the drink mixes except the Cocoa - that's some good stuff!

Wasnt a big fan of the Ice tea and Cider drinks,
the ice tea that damned stuff just wouldnt dissolve i spent about 10 minutes trying, and was still left with a like a sediment of the bottom of my cup,

Yet to run across the MRE Cocoa, will keep and eye out for it,

Yeah the cherry drink was great 12oz of the stuff aswell not the normal 6oz (the tea and cider were 6 so i am assuming), it better then the Brit orange and lemon (they are just sharp tasting not much flavour tho some of ya may disagree it does hit the spot on thirst), It reminded me of an ice lolly (Popsicle in the US??) i liked when i was kid.

Maybe if it ever snows here again (I live in the Southern US so it doesn't snow that often), I can see if the Cherry beverage base would make a good sno-cone! I hadn't tried that before but it sounds like it might be good.
