hi folks!
finally a new post from me after a long time now. but dont worry - i am constantly reading the forum
to the subject:
i was cleaning my collection this week and was shocked!

as i touched one of the older MCW rations in the display the bag crubled into little pieces. i could understand it if the sun has hit the ration but thats not the fact...
does anyone has the same experience or any idea how this could happen?

Sounds not really good

! Do you know the DoP of the MCW? Is is possible to post some photos?
The same thing happened to tan MREs, see here:

I guess the quality of the manufactured pouch foils is not the same by every production.
The similar "phantom" I watched by dark brown MREs. Most of them in my collection are in best condition, but there are a few where the foil is damaged

...
I will ceck my older MCWs soon...
So long mreheater72

Certain solvents can cause that to happen plastics.
Have you ever wiped them down with some kind of cleaner, or stored near gasoline/petrol fumes?

Probably direct sunlight,UV radiation. I have one dark brown MRE bag from 1993 and tan bags from 1998 to 2011 and they are all in very good shape. Not brittle.

I have several MCW's from the late 90's and they are still in good condition both A&B modules even the rubber band around them.
But just In case I will check my whole stash.
