There I am.
Toting my CETME rifle at the Medina gun show like I'm out showing off a hot girlfriend, and reveling in the fact I actually have cash to spend. I'm here primarily for ammo, and maybe some new shooting gloves.
I've been here about an hour when I see a flash of brown off to my left on a vendor's table. There they were. Six brown bag MREs. I pick one up and it says: MEAL, READY-TO-EAT,INDIVIDUAL
MENU NO.1
PORK WITH RICE IN BBQ SAUCE
ACCESSORY PACKET B
SO-PAK-CO, INC.
MULLINS,SC 29574
I pick another one up. Chicken Stew. I look up at the vendor. " How much?". He tells me 4 bucks flat. I swipe them all up and throw him the cash, asking if he has more. " Well, I got maybe three cases here..."
Sold.
He proceeds to tell me he's got somewhere in the area of about 1500 just like them stashed away he's getting rid of. A relative or something of that nature has a huge pile of them and he's selling them to get rid of them. He's quite amazed at the fact I took almost five cases' worth ( all were loose. I suspect they were raided for certain menus, but I'm cool with that.)
and was more than happy to give me a number to reach him at and I'm going to be getting more in a few weeks.
Pack date on components of one Chicken Stew is 1144A AO6B.
I have sampled a few of these, primarily the scarier ones, Tuna and noodles, Chicken Ala King, and the Ham Omelet. All were as fesh tasting as the day they were packed away. Even the applesauce was alright. Slightly dark. The chees I won't even chance, but the outer bags are in mint shape and the components are great. Even the caramel candy was unmelted or congealed. These were properly stored and cared for, no doubt. Will post more later. I'm gonna rip open this here Maple Nut Cake and have me a bedtime snack....

Is he still selling, and is there any way to contact him?
I'm still in the market for the old Chicken A-la King menu with the Cherry Nutcake.

I really liked the chicken ala king as well. First mre I tried. Had to be in 1984 or so at the MCAS El Toro airshow.
