Some vintage olive green "US Group Ration Cans"
Hi guys,
today I want to show some vintage olive green US group ration cans that are part of my collection :
"BEEFSTEAK DEHYDRATED RAW" packed by "RIGHT AWAY FOODS COPORATION". The weight is written by hand on the can .
"5,58" written on the lid of the can ( )
Code "10032". My suggestion for "translation" is: "March 10, 1982"
"EGG MIX, DEHYDTRATED" packed by "MARSHALL PRODUCE COMPANY"
Code "1188". My suggestion for "translation" is: "July 7, 1981"
The "BEEFSTEAK" and the "EGG MIX" in comparison to a "MCI B-2 UNIT"
So long mreheater72

Wow - great. I love kitchen stuff
Re: Some vintage olive green "US Group Ration Cans"
Great pics! Thanks for sharing. I have always wanted to get one of those cake & doughnut mixes (labeled something like cake & doughnut mix type III) that come packed in the cans like that they are usually silver color though. I think it would be interesting to crack it open and see if the mix is actually any good.

Ken, thanks for the info, now I think that will change my mind about finding and opening one of those doughnut mix cans! I imagine the silver ones are probably from the 1960's ( a guess). I have never seen the cornbread mix can before either.
The only green can I have ever tried was Chili and Beans dehydrated. It was in a #10 size OD can, it tasted ok just kind of plain and I got tired of it really quick.

Re: Some vintage olive green "US Group Ration Cans"
Hi guys,
I have three "new" olive green group ration cans in my collection :
The first three photos show the cans at one glance from different views:
PORK CHOPS DEHYDRATED RAW
Code "10121". May suggestion for translation is: "December 10, 1981"
ICE CREAM MIX POWDER with paper label
Code on the bottom lid "A49E1", no idea what that could mean, but I guess that can is very old
Again ICE CREAM MIX POWDER, no code visible, but also that can is very old

Awesome find mreheater!
Were you able to find any other information about the Pork Chops can? I have one in my collection as well, and I'd love to find out more info about how it was used. I don't see it listed in any of the MRE or MCI menu items, so I'm thinking it was maybe used for larger mess hall type meals since it mentions ovens. But then it also mentions to contact a veterinary officer if there's an issue. So interesting!
