Mystery weiner...

Post by Dekard » Tue Apr 04, 2006 10:34 pm

Okay - saw this at the local Big Lots for 99 cents each, so i bought 1 to try.

Question is, what is it?

Based on the generic packaging, it looks like a short run for disaster (katrina)
relief or for some type of "gubment cheese" program maybe? who knows.

anyway - it tasted aiight - but i prefer my canned vienna sausages.

i might buy a few more just to have them, but based on my rumbly tummy
i am not thinking it's a high priority. even my dog spit out the 1 i gave him.

Oh man...I thought Vienna Sausages looked bad in the little metal cans they usually come in but those pics look even worse. Yuck.

You know, that tray they're sitting in looks like the kind used by Hormel for those entrees you can find at the grocery store. You might be right, Dekard, maybe this was from a special run made for hurricane relief.

Gee CaptBob - thanks for bringing this thread back to life. It's getting close to dinner time for me and the last thing I needed to see was the above picture of those damn vienna sausages. I think I just lost my appetite. :-)

I wish there was more dropping of a few pounds...

Unfortunately, looking at that picture only cost me one meal. But MREs in general seem to promote more weight GAIN than anything else. :-)

So, post the picture of the Vienna Wieners on your fridge . . . next to your MRE stash . . . and anywhere else you'd like.

Or better yet, print out the pictures on this webpage:

They put the Rat in Ratatouille!

Found something even better....

Are those octopussy embryo's that guy is eating? No wonder his eyes are closed. I bet James Bond never ate those, even in a survival situation, but, well, let me think about it. I might do it for 200 dollars. 8)

Sorry to bring back such an old thread.

Those Vienna Sausage packages in trays were produced by Hormel specifically for resale in jail commisaries where they don't like the "guests" to have access to metal objects. The side of the packing box is specifically marked as "Prison" I found those same items being sold for 25¢ each at a local grocery chain that specializes in overruns and distressed goods, immediately after the pull date on those packages in June of last year.

As you mentioned, they're gawd-awful tasting, even worse that what you would get out of the traditional can.
