What Is this Ration?

Post by gearsource » Mon Mar 19, 2012 3:00 am

Have attached photos.

I know it's an MRE poundcake because I have eaten a couple of them.

But, the gold packaging with just a roll stamp indicating the flavor (I have ones that say Pineapple and Lemon Poppy).

Were these for "private label" MREs or ?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I googled.
And I found these pictures.

However, the pouch of this pineapple seems not to be a roll stamp...

This MRE is the menu 14 in 2004.

Thanks for the Photos, Laughing_man.

To clarify, the contents of the Gold Pouch marked Pineapple is a Pineapple Poundcake, not Pineapple fruit pieces. ( I know because I ate another one!)

Is Pineapple Poundcake on any MRE Menus anybody has seen?

I have seen the Lemon Poppy Seed Poundcake before in the normal military packaging, but the Gold Pouch has me stumped.

Any ideas on the Gold Pouch?

A pineapple pound cake is one of the items of MRE.

Isn't there any printing other than a roll stamp?

Thanks again go to Laughing_man! :D :D

There are no other markings on either of the two Pineapple Pound Cakes in the gold pouches that I have now other than the word Pineapple and the number 6274 4 (space present between the 4s).
I checked for any embossed or punched date or manufacturing codes along the seam edges and there is nothing there.

6274 This is your date code.

274 day of 1986 or 1996 or 2006

2006 was diff package

1986 no pound cake

so 1996 maybe the space 4 is the menu

Ham Slice
White Rice
Pound Cake
Cheese Spread
Cocoa
Sugar Free Beverage Base
Packet C

looks close

Thanks for the additional information, N_N_F.

Have you seen any other MRE components or other examples of this poundcake in the plain gold packaging?

Wow, has anyone ever seen a Carrot Pound Cake or a Pumpkin Pound Cake? Would love to try those!

I remember having one of those I cant remember exactly which one though. I know it had a bland taste not very strong at all and it had bits of carrot or pumpkin in it. I would have had to have been in the tan MRE packaging and time frame I would have ate it would have been 2001 - 2005.

I think was 2003 area
The pumpkin was very good, not quite like pumpkin pie, more like a sweet pumpkin bread with the usual crumbly mre pound cake texture.

Carrot cake was very tasty but the carrots were unappetizing, they seem to be little hard chunks maybe they were freeze dried but it was like getting egg shells in an omelette to me :x
