I don't know how many of you are interested in C-rations, but I found a website talking about this guy, Tim McAllister, that is attempting to make reproduction C-rations. They write in the article that "the detail he has gone to is staggering in that he has located the original food suppliers, manufacturers of the proper cans and suppliers of the proper cardboard rations boxes and cases. Even the cans will be made of steel, so you will need a can opener to get into them." I would buy a case just for the experience (I don't think they could replace MREs, though).
The article is here:

He has Reproduction Tropical Chocolate Disks and cocoa available now here:

I also found a cool site on WW II rations with some decent pictures here:

Theres some outfit in Oregon that makes all sorts of repro WW2 rations from US and others(out of current real products). They have auctions on Ebay sometimes. It's called Eifledesigns, or something like that. I've bid a few times, but never won 1.

Those repro c-rations sound pretty cool. I just wonder about how current that web page is - I seem to recall seeing that 2-3 years ago and it always sounded like the final product would be just around the corner. I'm not knocking it - I think it'd be cool to have some authentic c-rations available. They'd sure probably last longer than the half-case or so I have left that are just waiting to explode in my garage.

That's too bad, Kman. It sounded pretty cool. Maybe they'll materialize someday.

Having ate them in the Marine Corps(1975-78 ) IMHO you would be correct. Of course, maybe newer food types and process could improve them.

Members,
Here is the link to the guys who make repro rations from 1880s to 1960s. They are really a top notch outfit of rations to buy for reenactors and those (like myself) who crave historical information:

BTW, if that link is bad go to google and type in german rations or knacker squaddies.
BTW, trollling for german rations is how I found this web site.

The only C-Rat that I liked was the chocolate pudding..... but I guess it's kinda hard to screw up something like that.....

I remember my Dad who is a retired Marine, bringing tons of MCI's and components home all the time. The cabinets under the sink were filled with those old OD cans. The only things I can remember eating were the peanut butter (which always had a layer of oil on top that had separated) and the old pork slice. The pork slice wasn't bad if you could get over the gross gelatinous goo that was the juice while cold.

I hate cans. Remembered years ago, i had some cans in my fullpack and i accidently hit myself with the fullweight of my havesack of 40kg with the cans hitting me.
