Table for one please.....

Post by OT » Sat Jan 21, 2006 4:13 pm

Wife and Son are at the in-laws, home alone tonight. Not to worry, table for one and an mre of choice. (also some cold brew-ha). To dine in or out...now thats the question??

What are the (indoor) heating preferences of the entree'? I usally boil the bag. What about mre-ers?????

Hasta

Short on time: microwave it. Just remember, put the entree on a separate plate or dish. Also, it's already at room temperature, so it will only need 45-60 seconds.

Boil it? Done that. Now, what to do with that hot water? Don't need to clean the dishes. Oh well.

Use the FRH? That's something that just seems more suited to the outdoors.

What's left? Put it by the heater (if you have one) or some other warm place.

That's it.

I'd say use the microwave and save the FRH's for something else. Although, if I have extra FRH's I've used them inside. Use a shoe or something to prop the thing up on an incline and you're good to go.

The microwave works ok inside but I like the boiling water way a little better - not nearly as fast but it heats the entree more evenly than nuking it.

FRH indoors; smells icky

Post by kturnerga » Sun Jan 22, 2006 2:49 am

Per the FRH;
It emits hydrogen gas and thus is not good to mix with open flame. I also find them smelly when lit in a tent.

I was not well clothed in my 40-degree sleeping bag (hint; the foam sleeping pad wasn't invented for nothing). I wriggled around until I yanked out an FRH. Even if it was just a 6x8 bag it was welcome but oh boy the smell!

And I am sure there were fumes from the magnesium I could have done without.

Crack open the windows when you activate the FRH and place it near them. At least there isn't an issue with carbon monoxide as with trioxane.
