microwaveable??

Has anyone tried to heat a main dish or side in a microwave?
I think there is some tin mixed in the wrapper,of the mains and sides.

I prefer to boil in bag, but I have nuked them on occasion when pressed for time. Perfectly ok to do so, just remove from pouch first

With the military MREs and many of the commercially packaged retort products, there is a foil layer in the laminate packaging. As such, it is not feasible to heat it in a microwave unless you empty the contents into a microwave-safe dish. Given the fat and acid content in some of the entrees, you should also exercise care if you are using a plastic dish. With commercially packaged retort items, read the package instructions, many are now using pouches that do not have a foil layer in the laminate so that you can indeed heat the package in a microwave without damage to the appliance.

Yes. Just make sure to wrap the unopened retort pouch(DO NOT VENT) in aluminum, or tin foil, and microwave on high, for at least 20 minutes. Also, place a stainless steel spoon, or fork, beside the pouch, while microwaving, as that will heat the utensil.

I eat mine only by microwave. Those heaters are too damn smelly and take too long to heat up the entree/sides for me. I empty the contents onto a plate and then nuke for about 30-60 seconds.

I boiled my side entree (still sealed) in boiling water for about 5 minutes and it was fine. Probably should have went 6 minutes though.

Does microwaving spoil the taste at all? I was thinking that might take some of the moisture out the food?
A plus is you can keep the frh and store it for a rainy day.

Depends how long and hot you nuke it.
First of all, put a cover on it!
Do not nuke until the sauce is "burned" into the plate.
Add a little bit water and stir BEFORE microwaving
