MRE/FSR Sandwich Bread

I just noticed that the Epicenter is now selling the sandwhich breads without any fillings. They state that you can make your own sandwich with whatever. Sort of like a pita bread, I guess. Some guy said he did one with a maple sausage. I wonder if these are sealed in gov't. style wrap? If this is so, Uncle should put these in the sloppy MRE entrees, instead of 2 snack breads.

Yo DD,
According to epicenter, "We convinced the manufacturer of the MRE sandwiches to sell us just the bread with no filling." The packaging looks similar, but the labeling is via a sticker of some sort rather than the printed MRE version. Looks like the epicenter had Bridgford make these specifically for them for resale in the civilian market...
But I agree with you, this would be definitely be a better (or at least different) option than 2 wheat snack breads.

Ahha, as in FSR sarnies! Nice if it doesnt go off. I may try to get some over here. Would be just the sort of stuff to have in the boot of the car in case of getting stuck or whatever.
But this is different from Wheat Snack Bread, no?

Yeah, it's definitely not the same, although still very dense IMO.
I don't get it personally though, I like all the sandwiches they have. A little lacking in filling, but tasty. I LOVE the bacon ones for breakfast.

IMHO, this bread is much softer and less dense than the MRE wheat bread, and would be excellent for making sarnies.
BTW, they have now come out with a cinnamon bun that appears to be derived from the same bread, but I haven't tried it yet.
I have only seen these at meyers, but I expect they will show up at the epicenter soon. You can get the plain bread at both sites>

"instead of 2 snack breads.

Seems the 2009 Menu has cut back on the bread, you only get "one" snack bread instead of two. So this would be a great supplement to the 2009 menu. Maybe they will start including two pieces of bread in the 2010 menus.

Actually, I think it depends upon the entree and side dish combination, just as it has in the past. The menus that have items that may fit into a "sandwich" category still have 2 WSBs, just as they have in the past. For the 2009 menus, that would be the Meatballs in Marinara Sauce, the Veggie Burger in BBQ sauce, and the Beef Patty. Other entree items, have tortillas instead of WSB for the bread component, like the Tuna, Pork Rib, and Chicken Fajita. In the past, most of them entree items have only had 1 WSB in lieu of crackers.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Housil! I've actually been visiting this site for a while, but just as a lurker.
And MCIera, going through my MREs you are correct. In my neck of the woods we eat sloppy joe as a sandwich, so I was expecting two pieces of bread, as they had in the previous years with the sloppy joe entree.
I've also noticed 2009 was a bad year in accuracy, compared to the menu posted on this site. Specifically the flavor cheeses and cookies seem to be random.

Hey guys,
Just wanted to know if anybody had ordered any plain FSR bread from TheEpicenter? If so, what was it like? And any food reviews? I just got on line with TheEpicenter and ordered some. I even went further and ordered some of those cinnamon buns too. I was kind of curious how Natick would put cinnamon bun into a MRE or FSR and have it survive let alone taste?
