You beat me to it! I was going to post a link to the same story, but under the prior thread of "oldest MRE you've eaten".

If the seal was ok then he had no problem eating it.
Back in 2001 I ate some crackers from a Civil Defense ration can from the 60's we found in the old shelter of the school I used to work and i'm still alive...
I have mentioned in an earlier post that I was told that those C-rats have an indefinite shelf life if stored properly.
Guess he beat our friend with the "iron stomach" norge when it comes to eating old rations.
Peace!

Is the Colonel a member of MREInfo? The pound cake is from the same year as the Apollo moon landing. Now if only we could get our hands on some 40 year old space food - that would be the ticket.

I think it's great that the Colonel used a P38 to open the can.

You all noticed he picked just about the safest thing to eat? Now, if he had scarfed down a can of 'Ham and muthas', that would be brave.
they were nasty the first time around!
Note to the young... Ham and muthas=Ham and Motherf*ckers = Ham and Lima beans. A real taste sensation...
