I've eaten or should I say drank a vanilla dairyshake out of the 21 or 22 menu's from 08 and had no problems from it, but I still have the dairy shake from the other infected menu but will keep it until they announce the lot number contaminated.

It looks like MRE's are just one part of this larger recall:
http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/Major ... efault.htm

The list of all affected items so far is here:
http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/Milk/

While I don't see MRE's specifically on that list, they are obviously what they refer to as the "100 gram pouches that were not for retail sale" which launched the investigations in the following announcement:
http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/ ... 169471.htm

Apparently they didn't want to use plain English and say they were found in Military MRE's for some reason.

The MRE ingredient on the pouch is "Instant Nonfat Dry Milk". So, the closest database entry to MRE's that I can figure at the FDA list above is the category Instant Nonfat Dry Milk Product Recalls. The widest recall dates they have for one of the items is 50 pound bags which go from June 2007 - June 2009.

Or perhaps the category of Drink Mix Products would be similar too. Here's an example of a retail product recalled:
http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm171034.htm

It's kind of ironic looking at that label. They boast that it is "Made ... from cows NOT treated with rBST!" But now they find it might have Salmonella! And of course, there's our beloved friend Splenda as well.

It looks like they've updated the recall notice with a new notice:

https://www.dscp.dla.mil/subs/fso/alfoo ... f13109.pdf

The short of it is...until they get a better idea of which specific lots and dates are affected, they are now issuing the DO NOT CONSUME order for all MRE dates that include Dairy Shakes (2002-2009). The only exception are MREs with a date packed of 9140 or later - those are safe.

Shoot...9140...I don't have *any* MREs from 2009.

Another powder base product that will be undergoing testing.

Until then they recommend avoiding ALL Dairy Shakes in any MRE packed in between 2002 and June 2009 (Date of Pack 9139 - May 19, 2009).

Warning here: http://www.mreinfo.com/us/mre/mre-dairy ... ecall.html

This is a Dairy Product.

There was no "Alba" in the warning either, oops! :!:

Cocoa = Dairy. That is the point being made.

Though no specific warning for this product has been announced it is however in all its completeness a "Dairy" product just
like peanut and any by product that one could attribute a peanut allergy to.

I threw the Cocoa (dairy) powder right in the garbage.

It can be replaced. Or, I can mail it to you for free. I'll pay for postage?

It's just the Dairy Shakes for now but who knows what they'll add to the list any day now. They certainly updated the list of affected MREs from 2006-2009 to 2002-2009 pretty quickly.

Usually, Cocoa beverage powders contain skim milk therefore it would be dairy. I did not see it included on the MRE
coco beverage powder.

So I take my comments back from housil but am still willing to send them along :D

I would take them all with out an hesitate - but I would kep them if I were you!
I guess they did just a precaution. As long as they don´t know what exactly went wrong, they take em all out. To me, it´s the better way than let them all and see what happens (and add some extra toilett tissue to the sundries...)

That MRE cacoa is the best I ever had! I loved them back to the MCI´s in 1982! It came with the cracker cans :D

Don´t worry!
