MRE's with UMM
MRE's with UMM
Unidentified MRE Meat or Ugly Mystifying Meat means UMM.
Just had the Chicken with Salsa and while good the chicken was questionable. The look said cardboard but the taste said compressed chicken product. Anyway which of the meals have meat that is surely what it's supposed to be? Unless they have changed it the Chicken Breast is still Chicken. Besides that i'm unsure.
Also on a sidenote has anyone noticed on the back of the outer brown bags from Sopacko there is a year date stamped? It either said 2004 or 2084 but sure enough when it hits the light right there it is.

I've been surprised by a couple of MREs - surprise meaning that the meat inside actually resembled real meat. IIRC, I think it was Beef Stew and the Pot Roast MREs.
As for those date stamps on outside of the MRE bags, yes, I noticed that starting with the 2004 MREs - it was like a faint imprint/stamp of a date. But the next year, it looks like they went all out and are just printing IN HUGE NUMBERS the datecode of the MRE.

I just had both the beef stew and terryaki beef this week. Both are in a tie for my favorite so far. Plus they both were identifiable as meat from a cow!kman wrote:I've been surprised by a couple of MREs - surprise meaning that the meat inside actually resembled real meat. The beef w/ mushrooms has real meat in it. It is shredded beef. Not to be confused with beef w/ mushroom sauce though. That one is a patty of some sort , (may have a bit of beef in it), w/ mushroom gravy. I just had both in the past few days as I am getting rid of the extras we accumulated during the summer.

Someone really needs to do an in-depth report on the differences between all the Beef and Mushroom combinations. There seems to be:
Beef w/ mushrooms
Beef w/ mushroom sauce
Beef w/ mushroom gravy
Some are beef chunks, some beef patties, some good, some not so good. But which is which?!
Over at theepicenter.com, they have a pretty good deal going on older MRE entrees (from 1999-2001). One of them is the "Beef with mushrooms in sauce". I'd be tempted to pick up a case of these but I'm not sure which one this is.

Good Point Kman.
I Have Only Sampled The Grilled Beefsteak /w Mushrooms
The One Taken off the 2006 menu
It Appears to be a processed hunk of beef that has been grilled
prior to retort mix, pack, n cook.
I Found it very tasty
I've read..Cant remember exactly where, probably here n there...
that the others were not that good.
