Has anyone heard about Wornick's "Eversafe" line of civilian MRE-style meals?



Designed to be part of your disaster plan, these are MREs in a more commercially-acceptable packaging.

Still, with 1500-1600 calories per meal, it is . . . "a commercial version of the military product, adapted for use by businesses and consumers. The meal has a 2-year shelf life and includes an entree, dessert, and snack and features: A self heating unit, Condiments and utensils, Water-, insect-, and tamper-proof outer bag, portable packaging."

I'm going to talk with someone at Wornick this Friday. I'll let you know if I find out anything interesting.

No good for collecting.. but I would definatelty stock up if they were reasonable.

That of course would mean less demand for the military ones so the price of collecting would also go down

Cool - thanks for the link, CaptBob! I had heard that Wornick had gotten out of the civilian MRE market but I guess with all the recent hurricanes they figured out there was money to be made so they got back in - and with a snazzy bag design!

At first glance something curious pops out - they say 1500-1600 calories per meal. But regular military MREs are only 1250-1300 calories. I wonder why they're adding so many to the civilian MREs? Maybe they're intended for more than one meal?

Well, if they're only good 2 years, I bet they put those pudding cups that dont need to be refrigerated in them etc.. they don't have to keep it healthy either, just calorific. The military regulates what goes in, businesses wont know and dont care.

Maybe for all the people who need those calories while they are clearing away tornado-strewn trees . . . or bailing out flooded houses . . . or digging through earthquake rubble.

Or rather for watching your neighbors clean up your yard after you pay them to do so...LOL!

I must admit, I like the idea of finally offering rations to the people of this here United States. I hope they are for sale at Walmart and Target and all over the place so we can easily pick them up. I am getting sick of buying them online or through these companies. I want to buy a DVD a CD, some milk and a case of rations at my local Walmart and pay only tax and not some exorbitant shipping fees.

Friday, I'll be speaking with Wornick's Director of New Product Development (or some such title) and I'll ask her if they are going to have these available in local stores.

I hope you'll let us all know the outcome of that discussion. I'd buy some if I could find a local source for them.

And be sure to tell them that mreinfo.com would be happy to review a case of the new rations. I'll even pay for them if they'll just send them this way!
