A co-worker of my wife just gave her a meal kit she got on her National Guard duty last weekend. Its called a Shelf Stable Meal. I am sure this is old stuff to you guys, but as I am new to the ration collecting hobby, I thought it was interesting. The company that makes it is called Valley Foods ( www.valleyfoods.com ).
Here is the link to the meal I have. http://www.valleyfoods.com/military_mk/ ... blemk.html
Meal Number: SS57 - Lunch/Dinner
Shelf Stable Meal
Re: Shelf Stable Meal
Cool link - thanks for sending it. I haven't seen those before. Looking at those available meals, I can where the breakfast meal would be ok but there's no way I'd want one of those lunch or dinner meals! A beef and cheese stick is not my idea of a meal!

Re: Shelf Stable Meal
The meal I have is a lunch/dinner, and it has more "junk food" than anything else. A lot of calories from sugar. It looks like something you would pack in your kids school lunch.
Re: Shelf Stable Meal

they are good....
Peace!

I ran across some of these that were being distributed in small numbers after Hurricane Katrina.

thenaztuu,
If you search the directory we had a discussion on supplement meals that the DoD puts out in lieu of MRE's. Normally they are simply called " Jimmy Deans" or just box lunches. The name "Jimmy Dean" come from the same folks who make sausage, breakfast items, etc. They did a boxed lunch combo a few years ago for the military and since then several other companies now produce them. Jimmy Dean brand cught on pretty quick and it was really good for a lunch or late dinner.
This right here is just another version of a box lunch, or what seems like breakfast box meals. Yes, they have a lot of sugar and calories but figure in the amount of gear, a weapon, and other stuff a soldier or Marine has to carry in a training climate and the sometime shortage of MRE's and you can see how these are a nice alterantive.

Not really, just similar names. Valley Services Inc. is in Jackson MS and is also in the business of packaging foods for schools and institutional catering. Valley Foods is located in Youngstown OH.
