Hi all, I was trying to track down some more sources for rations and got a piece of information that got my interest. There is an army surplus store in New Westminster BC called Westley Military Surplus (near Vancouver) that has some MRE is what I was told. I called and sure enough, she said yes they do have some. I asked a few questions and found out that they are apparently a mix of US MRE parts and Canadian contents. The lady that answered was not too knowledgeable and I had to really probe for even basic and sometimes incorrect information. As an example, I have no clue if they even have a dessert.
From what I gather, they contain SOPAKCO MRE main meals, MRE bread, and some other stuff. The drink crystals are from some eastern Canadian place. They do not include FRH, but they do sell FRH separately.
Question: is there a way of finding a date on the individual MRE contents? I saw on this site something that referred to date codes on the outside of full MRE, but nothing about the individual contents. At least, nothing that I noticed.
I will probably make my way in there to check them out, and I will certainly pick up some FRH. The only way I will be able to find out accurate information about them is to look myself. The "MRE" are $10 CAD. If the contents are not too bad it may end up being a decent deal for me as I do not have to pay any shipping. If I pick some up I will provide some photos and a review of sorts.

Every item inside a MRE has that 4-digit-code:waldorfTM wrote: Question: is there a way of finding a date on the individual MRE contents? Thanks. Hopefully I will be able to see a date code on the parts. Who knows how long they have been sitting in there...
