As a Newbie, I am spending money like I think I have it so I have been on a trip to want to buy every MRE type and brand.
So far I have bought MENU A, MENU B, Sopako, A-pack / a-pack, with MRESTAR in the mail. Havent gotten to the MENU C or Eversafe which is out of the MRES bus. As of today, I realy havent eaten but about 3 MRE'S. From what I gather It looks like the MENU A/B seem to have more items in it for price, Sopako next, a-pack a little less and package tore open very easy. I cant wait to see the MRESTAR. I read on this site that they were having some issues here recently, but the ones I bought are a few years old and hopefully they will be complete. SO HOW WOULD YOU RATE THESE AS PRICE FOR COMPONENT?
The other problem I am now considering is how to keep these COOL during the summer. The house can get 85° in summer.
I think a closet with a small tube from a window a/c would keep the temp down. I then again could leave them in one room, but wanted to keep them locked up in the closet. Any Suggestions?

sag45, to start off, I wanted to point out there are really two classes of MREs - military MREs (what you call Menu A and B) and civilian MREs (aPack, Sure-Pak, MREStar, etc.).

Personally, I think the military MREs are the best and if you can get them for a good price, those are the best ones to have.

But if you can't get military MREs, you're left with civilian MREs and that's where you have to choose from the different varieties.

You've probably already seen my Civilian MREs Comparison page: http://www.mreinfo.com/civilian/mre/civ ... rison.html but if not, be sure to check it out. I need to update the page taking into account the current situation with civilian MREs but for now, here's how I see them:

1. Ameriqual APacks - probably the best civilian MRE out there if you can get them with free shipping from mrefoods.com...but they're currently out of stock.
2. Sopakco Sure-Paks - these are usually the best but they really started cutting corners during the last hurricane season. We'll need to give them some time to make sure their quality goes back up.
3. Menu C - these used to be very good MREs but the menu selection seems to have changed and despite them still being advertised as containing X amount of food, they're shipping with much less food. I'm guessing this is a component supply problem so we'll just have to see when/if they get it corrected.
4. MREStar - the entrees are still good but their variety of sides and desserts is nonexistant. Additionally, they seem to have questionable sources for some of their components (1992 FRHs? - WTF?).
5. Eversafe - Wornick is out of the civilian MRE business - if you see any Eversafe's for sale, they're probably from last year or longer...I would recommend avoiding these.

As for which one to get right now...I think military MREs are the best. If you have get civilian MREs, shop out and find the place that has the cheapest price - APacks, Sure-Paks, or Menu Cs should be fine is you can find a good deal on shipping.

Be sure to check out that thread I started in Buy/Sell/Trade about the eBay seller who had APacks for sale. They're up to $35 Buy-it-Now with $20 shipping. $55 is a heck of a deal on those right now - I picked up two cases and they look great.

Hey, if Wornick is out of the civilian MRE business, then my early Eversafe meals (random MRE components thrown into the clear Eversafe bag) should end up as nice collector's items, eh?

Sure! Just like those two, old "Mil-Spec" meals I have on the shelf!

Definitely collector's items. Maybe you can sell them on eBay in five years as "rare Wornick civilian MREs" and make a killing!
