Does anyone here know about or participate in re-enacting? I would be up for some Vietnam or some WWII style re-enacting. It looks like fun. I see clips on Mail Call all of the time or WWII style re-enacting to help illustrate the equipment and tactics of past warfare. Any information would be appreciated.

Sorry Dave that was just to damn easy;the museum has three sections,Pacific,European,African Theaters.There is more stuff than you can absorb,its so interesting that one WAR was really three and so was the equipment,Men in the islands,Eurpoe,Africa all had different needs so we had three different sets of everything and this place has it all,its HUGE and when I was there phase two was under construction which would double the museum.It is part of the Smithsonion but it was too BIG for DC.Also they put it on HIGH ground near the Quarter so I feel sure its ok.

Hey if you or anyone else wants to know more about re-enacting there are a lot of units out there for you to surf around and see what exactly there is. I have a couple of Vietnam area groups in OR. One guy has a website called the Pacific Northwest Historical Re-enactment Group. His outfit does mostly 1st Air Cav stuff on the Oregon Coast. Unfortunately I have forgoten his name right now. If your into that time frame give it a try.
Or try this; One surplus outfitter in Texas has a huge listing of re-enactor groups. His name is Trey Moore of Moore Miltaria, his website is www.mooremilitaria.com. He is strictly Vietnam era and has several links on his page. Check him out to get started.

Sounds great kyle, but it will be a long time before I go anywhere near NOLA as you call it...I thought it stood for North L.A. or possibly New Orleans, LA...LOL! Sometimes I have blonde moments...LOL! I would eat that museum up for sure, that is what I would call one heck of a cool vacation!

treesuit, thanks for that info, it looks interesting. I am in Florida, so OR or TX would be too much of a haul for me on the weekends to play "army man"...LOL! The Vietnam era is right up my ally, and that 1st Air Cav sounds awesome! Do they get involved in having faux missions with Huey's? That would be cool!

I will check that site out and get with that guy and see if he knows of any Florida groups around the Orlando area that I could perhaps join in on.

Yeah, I don't know but if you go Trey's website and start surfing the links you may find exactly what your looking for in the FL panhandle. The guys in OR are really interesting in that they have their own firebase near the coast and sometimes get permission to go to Camp Rilea during the summer. Camp Rilea is a NG base used by most of the OR and WA Guard units. Their firebase is close to the rain forests so it looks a little like what you would expect to see from the 'Nam era.
Although I have never heard of anybody doing any Huey insertions for a re-enactor group.
