I can't really understand why Ameriqual decided on a name like that for an entree, makes you think there's more Barbecue sauce then beef. I have yet to open this ration, anyone know what year its from?

Ameriqual doesn't decide on the names - Natick does. They come up with the new entrees and then they contract out for the production.

"Sloppy Joe Filling" was first introduced in 2005. Until you open it, there's no telling which year your MRE is from - could be 2005, 2006, 2007, or even 2008 if it's in the new bag.

There are laws that require that foods be named in a manner that accurately reflects the ingredients by weight. If the barbecue sauce weighs more than the beef, they MUST call it barbecue sauce with beef. If the beef outweighs the sauce than it MUST be called beef with barbecue sauce.

These laws exist because most people consider it false advertising to call something that is 95% noodle and 5% chicken, "Chicken with noodles" when in fact it is "Noodles with Chicken."

Look at the ingredient list on the box. The ingredients must be listed in the order of the weight of the ingredients.

That kind of contradicts what you said since Cooked Beef is the first ingredient listed, then water ,then tomato paste and so on and so forth.

However I would expect there to be more sauce.

With cooked beef as the first ingredient, I cannot understand why or how they could label it that way.

If you ever uncover the answer, I would love to know.

For the interim, I will put it down as the government doesn't have to follow their own rules.

I forgot to post this, I made the second episode of my show, and we opened the barbecue sauce with beef, turned out to be sloppy Joe filling printed on the bag, and was quite delicious. I have no idea why Ameriqual decided to call it barbecue sauce with beef.
