MCW ration

One more question for you guys.

I am purchasing several cases of the MCW rations from the GB going on at another site. My questino is that they dont look like the Cold weather rations that I have. The ones that I have contain 2 meals for a day and the packaging is different. Are the MCW rations a newer version of what I have? I would assume that they would probably last forever almost since the majority of the items are dry or freeze dried.

Also the MREs that are in the GB are 2004's. Realistically could I expect another 5 years of shelf life on them if I keep them at 60 degrees or less?

Sorry for all my sill questions. I have a lot to learn.

That's a pretty good group buy going on over at Warrifles.com. One of the guys started a thread about it here:

viewtopic.php?t=1845

The MCWs in that group buy are the "Meal, Cold Weather" rations - the newer cold weater rations. It sounds like the ones you're familiar with are the RCWs - Ration, Cold Weather. Those are the ones that came with 2 meal bags.

The only items in the newer and older cold weather meals are the entrees - everything else like the crackers, peanut butter, desserts, etc. are the same as in the MREs - just in white packaging.

Here are some links to the old and new rations:

Old RCWs:

New MCWs:

As for those MREs in the group buy that are from 2004, from what I've read of their description, they should still be good for a number of years. The same can't be said for the 2004 MREs we recently discussed here:

viewtopic.php?t=1792

I've done a couple of reviews of those "heat stressed" MREs and you can find those reviews here:

Review: 2004 MRE No. 20 - Spaghetti (heat stressed)
viewtopic.php?t=1836

Review: 2004 MRE No. 19 - Pot Roast (heat stressed)
viewtopic.php?t=1843

After eating a few of those MREs, I can say for sure that if you store your MREs in high temeratures, all the parts won't last very long. Some parts will but other things like the applesauce won't make it.

But I'm guessing if your 2004 MREs were stored like MREDepot said they were stored, they'll probably last. Just be sure to test them out annually to see how they're going.
