I got Crackers here dated 8296132 B. So thanks to this site I know they´re from 1998, day 296. But what do the other three numbers and the B mean?

I'm guessing that they're lot numbers. They might indicate something like a time (1:32am?) but I'd put my money on a lot number.

What is up with these ridiculous cryptic numbers? I don't understand why companies work in code like this. I sell a non-alcoholic item and it is the same thing...numbers which no one knows what the hell they mean.
