MRE Shopping on Ebay
MRE Shopping on Ebay
So, now that i'm back into MRE's, i have few questions for the forum.
What does the inspection date on the outside of box mean?
What should be the average price per case, normally?
Any Sellers to watch out for(good or bad) or particular items to avoid?
Thanks for any responses

WHAT DO THOSE DATES MEAN?

The current date on MREs is 2004. These will have an inspection date of 2007 on them. What this means is that in 3yrs from the production date of 2004, which will be in 2007 obviously, the MREs in the storage area of army bases, etc have to be inspected to see if they are still edible, which they should be if stored somewhat correctly. So it is safe to say, that all MREs for sale on ebay, unless otherwise noted, will be the 2004 menu.

A good price to pay is NOTHING obviously, but since I am not in New Orleans right now, and thankful to God that I am not, I have to pay what everyone else pays. I would say, don't pay more than $60 for a case including shipping. I set that as my cap for what I will pay for a case of MREs. Last year, kman and I were lucky enough to find a guy selling cases of MREs for $25 a case!!! I lived only an hour away from the guy and told him that I would come pick them up and save on the shipping. Well, that was a great price, but don't expect to see that again, unless of course some of those MREs that they are handing out in New Orleans and the surrounding areas make it into cars on their way to Florida. So basically, anything you can pay under $60 per cs would be fine in my eyes. $5 a meal? Hell, you will pay that for some crappy meal at McDonald's. Why not get a well balanced meal from Uncle Sam for the same price!

Hope this helps!
Oh, as far as people to look out for on ebay. I have bought from several people and have never had one problem. Just take a look at the person's rating, if it is good then you are okay, if people complain that they don't get the product or get something else then obviously avoid them. Common sense is king here.

"THEY CALL ME DIRTY...DIRTYDAVE"
Wow - $120? Dang...that's crazy. Are you sure it wasn't for three cases? I've seen a few auctions lately that say "Case of MREs" and it's going for $90. But when you click into the auction, you see it's really for 2 cases.
But then again, I do recall a year or two ago during some bad hurricanes that MREs were going for $80/case at first...but a month later, they were back down to $40.
Me personally...I'm holding out for the $25 cases.

They seem to be coming down - or at least, they soon should. The super expensive ones have few if any bidders. A few more weeks, if gas prices and disasters calm down a bit, I predict there may possibly even be a glut. Maybe That seller in Tenesee will part with 10 cases at 25 bucks each, then I come and pick em up in the pickup
