dear friends
does anyone have information about the ingredients of such kind of bread
and also pictures
long shelf life bread
If it will help, Longlifefood.com has the ingredients for the hamburger buns listed as:
Bleached, Enriched Wheat Flour (Wheat Flour, Monocalcium Phosphate, Malted Barley Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid), Water, Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Shortening (Soybean Oil), Glycerol, Vital Wheat Gluten, Yeast, Salt, Sucrose Fatty Acid Esters, Gum Arabic, Xanthan Gum, May Contain Dough Conditioners (DATEM), Sorbic Acid (A Preservative), Artificial Cream Flavor, and Azodicarbonamide.
I think this vendor deals solely in MRE components from Wornick.

Re: long shelf life bread
Bread? You want bread?
When I was still buying rations and stuff, I picked up two "loaves" of shelf-stable bread. There is no date or date/code anywhere so I have no idea as to how old this bread might be; however, shelf-stable bread is a fairly recent innovation.
Each loaf was actually twelve individually-packaged slices of bread arranged in a standard sized brown shopping bag. This might be the way the bread is shipped to the MRE packager... or it might be simply included in larger ration cartons. Anyone know?
Let's take a look inside.... Here's a look at an individual slice.... Open it up and give it a sniff.... Both sides of the bread look like the ends of a loaf. Whoa! Funny smell! What's this little thing? A desiccant packet--"Do not eat"--got it! Let's try a bite.... Hmmmm.... funny taste, too! (whistles!) Here, boy! Want some shelf-stable bread? Sure you do! I'll put the rest in the same pile with the desiccant--"Do not eat"

Re: long shelf life bread
Looks cool, CaptBob - thanks for the pics! I've always wondered what was inside those big brown bags. Now I see it's just small brown bags. That bread looks real close to the bread they put in the Canadian IMPs.
Re: long shelf life bread
Hi, Same thing here. I have two "loaves" as well, but don''t have a date on the "thingies". I should check the individual packs.CaptBob wrote:....

(nice review by the way)

Re: long shelf life bread
It comes in this boxes:

Four bags in a box

Brown pounches vs. tan from MREs

The bread is different from MRE "wheat snack bread".
The MRE bread is more "sweet", the "shelf stable bread" has a more bitter/dry/harsh taste.

...and has a similar "strange" taste.kman wrote: That bread looks real close to the bread they put in the Canadian IMPs.
To improof the Canadian, you have to heat it up - yummi - don´t know if this work on the brown US also?
Re: long shelf life bread
CPT Bob,
Well I can shed some light on this topic. Back in 1990/91 when I was in Gulf War 1, we got these as a first run/test sort of thing. These came in the brown bags when we went to go pick up our cases of MRE's. One bag with one case. These were a welcome sight as that the crackers were really getting old and we neede some variety despite the taste and texture. Later in 1991 before we left the FRH's started showing up as well. After 1991 and when I rotated back to the States I didn't see these again until the wheat snack bread came into existence. Sometimes I see these packets at Army/ Navy stores for a couple of cents. Nobody really knows what they are until I tell them then some people look at me kind of funny. Oh well.

Re: long shelf life bread
Howdy,
Here are some picture of the ones I have.
My guess is, since there are 4 loaves in a case/box. they are marked A B C and D.
Could you have another look at the ones you have Housil? Your're the Man with the full cases
Tell us what kind of printing yours have on the bottom.
I'd appreciate that.
good day,
Nawt.
