U.S. Congressional Candidate Klock Vows to Eat MREs Until Primary Election Day
Launches Straight-Talking, Issues-Oriented Campaign
HOUSTON, Jan. 8 — Brian "I-Am-Not-A-Politician" Klock, a Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas's 22nd District, announced today that he will show solidarity with American Forces fighting the Global War on Terror by lunching exclusively on MRE (Meals, Ready to Eat) rations through the March 4 primary election.
A Commander in the U.S. Navy reserve, Klock will officially announce his candidacy, outline his principal campaign themes and answer questions from the press on Thursday, January 10th, at 11:00am at the Doubletree Guest Suites -- Galleria, 5353 Westheimer and again on Friday, January 11th, at 11:00am at the American Legion Post -- Ellington Field, 11702 Old Galveston Rd.
The only candidate from either political party with direct experience conducting counterterrorism and counterintelligence operations, Klock said, "Too few people in this country realize our country is at war with a ruthless enemy who is every bit as dangerous as the Nazis; I am making this pledge to call attention to the sacrifices being made by our military men and women who are fighting on the front lines to protect us and our American way of life.
Klock continued, "The war on terror is a critical issue in this election -- and is closely tied to America's homeland, energy and economic security. We need people in Washington who understand this and who will provide the leadership and support our troops and our nation deserve. Like it or not, this war has been ongoing now for thirty years and likely won't end tomorrow -- so we need to stay the course." Klock is an experienced, proven leader -- a Commander in the U.S. Navy reserve with 27 years of active-duty and reserve counterintelligence experience. He was twice deployed to the Balkans in support of Naval and Marine operations and was recalled to duty after the September 11 attacks to support U.S. forces in Operation Enduring Freedom.
In addition to the war, Klock says illegal immigration, rising energy costs, health care and the economy are major issues, along with taxes. "Congress is mired in petty partisan politics to such an extent that nothing gets done. It's time to lead! That is what I intend to do for the people of this country and the 22nd Congressional District of Texas. The Democrats -- and our current representative, Nick Lampson -- want to sell out the troops, open our borders to illegals, hamper energy production, take over health care and wreck the economy by raising our taxes. This is a conservative district and needs to be back in conservative hands."
Klock recently resigned from his position as a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch in Clear Lake to run for Congress. He and his wife of 13 years, Susan, and their daughter Taylor, reside in Nassau Bay, Texas. The Klocks have resided in the Houston area for 18 years.
