ASAP/ D-Bar?

Post by DangerousDave » Sat Jan 05, 2008 5:26 pm

I was just thumbing though a recent catalog, and found this "ASAP meal replacement drink" pack. Not unlike an MRE dairy shake, but different formulation and weight. 82.4 gram/325 calorie verses an mre dairy shake at 100 grams/470 calories. :?:

I found a few links for it:

ASAP™ CHOCOLATE-FLAVORED MEAL REPLACEMENT DRINK MIX - 5 PACK
Any Situation, Always Prepared™ When you don’t have time or provisions to grab a square meal, tear open a pouch of ASAP, add water (hot or cold), reseal and shake. In 30 seconds you’ll have a delicious, high-quality “milkshake” that satisfies your hunger, nourishes your body, and keeps you going for hours. Excellent for extended ops, backpacking, preparedness stores/survival kits, and disaster relief. ASAP, the only sports nutrition-quality meal replacement in a Mil-Spec zip-top drink pouch, comes from military operators and sports supplement pros.

and

ASAP is the result of a combination of professionals coming together from the military and the sports supplement industry to create the "first ever" sports nutrition quality meal replacement in a disposable mil-spec drink pouch with a zip lock top!

We created ASAP for one simple reason, "you need it!" We cannot tell you how many times we have heard from military personnel, police officers and first responders how much it"sucks" not having the time or availability to get a good meal while in operation.

The problem though is more than just not getting "a good meal", but also the lack of a meal consisting of high quality nutrients in a combination to help to prevent muscle loss and aid in performance and recovery, while satisfying your hunger.

"The other day, I had a workout session at 0800 after breakfast at the Naval Academy with a group of Mids who want to be SEALs. We swam for about an hour, run 5 miles of intervals, and did at least 100 pull-ups, 300 push-ups and abs for PT. Not only was I fine with the workout, but actually felt pumped up for the entire event, even after earlier workout, no lunch (other than ASAP), and working with kids 20 years younger than me. I was sold on ASAP! It is a great meal replacement package and not bad for performance either."

Hey I saw that being marketed in Brigade Quatermasters, it sounds like it would be kind of fun to have if you didn't have time to sit down an eat or grab something.
It almost sounds like one of those Carnation instant breakfast drinks they still have around in limited quantities. I can remember having one of those one morning and having it taste like chalk, :x . But the vitamin and mineral content was way up there, so I guess it's a trade off.
The only thing I don't like is the price: Brigade Quatermasters offers a single pouch at $4.00 dollars a shot! If it was a bit cheaper I'd say I'd get one.

At $4.00 each, that's an outrageous price! :o

I'll pass......

Besides, at $1.25 each (shipped) I like the MRE Dairy Shakes from Long Life Foods . :P

You like those shakes? I've tried the chocolate and strawberry and i find them both awful. That strawberry shake tastes too much like my proteinshake which tastes like it came out of hells septic tank. I was able, however, to chug down the chocolate shake because i was so darn hungry. (and because i paid for it :P)

I just received a bounced email from Never Quit Industries (nqinutrition.com) so I did some checking and sure enough, they were out of business late last year:

Found on: http://soldiersystems.net/blog1/2008/08 ... placement/
Never Quit Industries to Cease Production of Meal Replacement

Important Announcement from Nathan K. Merithew, NQI

To: All NQI Customers and Patrons
From: Nathan K. Merithew, Owner NQI

Dear customers and patrons of NQI products, workouts and services,

I am writing this letter because I learned a long time ago that leadership has the fiduciary responsibility of keeping its people informed. Some of my colleagues in the MIL/LE industry disagree with my decision to practice this philosophy of giving the customers so much information, but I do not. Our customers look to our product line to help them on real world missions and use our workouts to help better their physical conditioning, sometimes to help to complete those missions. What this means is that “you”, our customers, look to us for dependability, which means you put your trust in us to deliver.

Since the beginning of 2008 NQI has had many obstacles which have been extremely costly. We had a manufacturing issue in JAN, which delayed our additional flavors from being packaged. We also partnered with a product rep group/sales force that had its own internal problems unknown to us. The aforementioned items eventually slowed our ability to deliver and to date has eroded investor confidence in the ability to return a profit on the time table originally anticipated.

These items coupled with the other ups and downs of a small start-up company in a less than stellar economy has had a devastating impact on our business model. Over the past few months I have personally been working contracts to keep NQI going but this takes time away from NQI itself. Truth be known, 90% of this company apart from the investment dollars and trade show help has been shouldered by one person. This would include all the content you see, product development, workouts, daily logistics, sales, etc… It has come to be too much to be profitable on this end, and thats what businesses are about, turning a profit.

With this being said NQI will be discontinuing its ASAP Any Situation Always Prepared High Protein Meal Replacement product line effective immediately. It will be available however over the course of the next 3 months on our website at $19.95 a box from the Reg. $49.95-59.95 depending on the specials we were running.

Myself and Dave Wilson created ASAP for one reason, to help feed warriors. This inherently may have been another problem with our business itself, we are more concerned about troop welfare than profit.

NQI will continue to deliver you free workouts and offer training courses in regards to specific areas of study along with our strategic relationships with other much larger companies that offer goods and services in the industry.

As for myself I have recently been cleared to return to active duty by the end of the year, this time with the US Navy to be a corpsman to help to take care of our Marines.

NQI will be in good hands upon my departure and I will still play a role in its future guidance.

I am very thankful for all of the relationships I have made along the way, some of which have had the beginning of life long friendships.

Thank you all for your business over the past year.

Semper Fi

Very respectfully,

Nathan K. Merithew, NQI

I just drank one of the new 2008 pruduction strawberry bannana shakes and it was not to bad. I do not like strawberry but the banana helped. I know this may be wrong but I use 8 ounces of milk instead of the water, tastes much better. Now out in the boonies or sand pile I know there is no milk and I would drink it with water as well. The chocolate is my favorite, vanila is second choice.

It's really too bad they went out of business. I had some of their chocolate shakes and even though they didn't mix up too well despite all the shaking I did, they gave me a ton of energy - way more than I would get from a regular MRE Chocolate Dairyshake.

Kman,

Okay does that mean that they are going to discount every drink packet since they are going out of business? If so where or what website can you go to for a deal?
