Are the individual entrees on EBAY legit?

Post by kidsluvmres » Mon Dec 24, 2007 1:43 pm

I usually buy MRE's in a case so that I know I'm getting the real military MRE. I'm now thinking of buying just some entrees either off ebay or mrefoods.com. Are the individually sold entree's generally the real deal or do I need to be careful?

The entree components are generally the same as the ones that are used in the DoD MRE packages. But you do need to be careful buying anything off of eBay, and even from online vendors.

Along the lines of what MCIera said, it's usually easier to find legitimate MRE entrees for sale than it is to find whole military MREs. Almost all of the entrees you see for sale on eBay and online are made by Ameriqual/Sopakco/Wornick - the same companies who make the military MREs.

What you really need to watch out for is how old they are. Even though 5-8 year old entrees are probably still good to eat, you shouldn't be paying the "fresh" price for them. The online places like mrefoods.com, theepicenter.com, and longlifefood.com are reliable places that will only send you "fresh" entrees ("fresh" meaning a year or so old).

Thanks for the info. I've ordered from theepicenter.com before and trust them. I think I'll order some entrees from mrefoods.com since they're on sale and have free shipping. By the way, have the first strike rations made it to ebay yet?

I've heard of one, maybe two, auctions for the FSRs on eBay but that's about it. I expect they'll go for some pretty high prices for awhile.

CCC isn't that bad.. I'm just with kman on not liking the almonds though, they're hard to ignore for me, I think it would be on the top 20 if it weren't for those.. I really love curry/similar flavored things too.
