I was able to go to a little gun show this morning and was lucky enough to pick up a 1944 canteen cup, 1945 mess kit with silverware, and a 1946 mess kit carrier to make myself a little kit from three different vendors. Among the items was a B2 unit I felt I needed to buy because I do not have any vintage ration items and thought this would be a good start. The date code sealed the deal. 06 66.
It had to be.
I feel this has to be a very cool start to a possible hobby or collection

Looks like sin appears, clean and proffesional looking but ugly inside, makes me wonder if there is a moldy cheese spread or something rancid waiting inside.

I'm a little surprised someone hasn't taken up the slack and offered these in recent years, not necessarily a reproduction MCI, but with the popularity of "prepping" it would be an easy sale, I think. MRE are similar, but canning items offers a certain level of security and durability. I did like those foil wrapped discs from the Wilbur Chocolate co.

If I could get some reproduction MCIs and use them for prepping I would because they camoflauge better than tan MREs.
