Open it up. I believe that is the shelf stable bread that has been "new" for about 25 years now. (Not to be confused with the more or less execrable "wheat snack bread")

I saw the shelf stable bread one time on active duty. Supplied in the same brown packet that accessory packets once were, as we all queuing at a field mess. In fact that's what I thought it was at first. Field kitchens were kind of a hybrid thing at times. UHT boxed milk, a salad, entree, dessert, etc.

How do you know without opening it? :)

Ya, it's "different", but what I mean by that, it's bread. (Or at least more of a "generally recognized as bread -like substance (compared to "wheat snack bread" certainly!) LOL

I actually quite like the Wheat Snack Item, with PB & J...but they can't really call it bread simply based on its shape...

They did try to mold it into some sort of bread slice shape configuration. I don't think it fooled anyone. LOL. Snack bread just has this weird flavor, texture & gnarly aftertaste. Jeeze, just stick with saltines. The real bread component were reasonably edible as I recall, sort of reminded me of those cute little kiddie loaves sold at state fairs and such.

and pictures, the slices are thiner than the bread that comes in the norwegian rations that have been made in the US.

Well - how does it taste? I can't help notice the lengthy ingredients list. It even includes "Wheat Snack Bread Premix".

I swear, all the new items are just the old ones re-packaged into new stuff. "SSDS" aka same $&@t, different sauce".
