MRE Experiment

Post by Salty Croc » Thu Nov 25, 2021 12:24 pm

So I was thinking, yeah it happens sometimes, I wanted to do an experiment. I am gonna see how bad the MRE's get when not properly stored. I am gonna leave this 2017 case, that I bought in 2019, outside for a year. It will be sitting on my deck completely exposed to the elements.

So next year on Thanksgiving day I will open up the case and an MRE, one with cheese of course 😁, and see how they held up.

That's awesome! Do you have a control that you could leave inside to directly compare? Maybe a meal that you could open now or freeze? That way you'd have the best case, normal case, and worst case? (case, get it?)

That is a GREAT idea Smitty. I do have another case. I will crack it open and put a few menus in the freezer. Put menus 3,8,9 in the freezer.

Re: MRE Experiment **UPDATE 12/27**

It's only been a month, but we have seen temps ranging from mid 20's to 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Today is our first snow / freezing rain. No real accumulation but worthy of an update 😁

I’m curious as to how long that cardboard box lasts out in elements. That’s some tough ass stuff.

would really hate to see you waste what might be still viable MREs. I can show you what happens when a military unit disbands with two 7-ton trucks still loaded and they sit out for 9 month.
